Blacklisting & Whitelisting Addresses

Blacklisting Addresses

When you click on AntiSpam Settings, you will see two "Blacklists", one that blocks messages based on the Subject of the email, and another that blocks based on the From address. There is no reason to Blacklist spam. This has little to no effect, since spammers constantly change the FROM address on the spam they send. Blacklists are most useful for blocking messages that are not technically spam, but are still unsolicited messages from legitimate organizations that you do not want to receive.

To add entries directly to your blacklists:

  1. Click on AntiSpam Settings
  2. Select the From or Subject Blacklist
  3. Enter the appropriate information and click Add

You can also blacklist a sender's address easily from within any message that is in your inbox. Simply open the message and click Block Sender in the list of message options above the text.

Whitelisting Addresses

There is also a "Whitelist" option that approves messages based on the From address. The Whitelist can be used to allow messages through from a specific sender, but you should use this sparingly, preferably only when a valid message from a sender has already been bounced back or quarantined. It is unlikely that a message from someone will be bounced or quarantined if their sending server is configured properly, and approving too many addresses may increase the amount of spam you receive.

To add entries directly to your whitelist:

  1. Click AntiSpam Settings
  2. Select "From: Whitelist"
  3. Enter the address you always want to allow through and click Add

Important: Never whitelist your own address or domain, or you will see a large increase in spam delivered to your inbox.

If you have quarantine enabled, you can also easily whitelist addresses for messages that are in your Spam folder that you do not consider spam. Simply open the message and click "Allow Sender" in the list of message options above the text. This will approve the sender, and will also transfer the message to your Inbox.
