The instructions below will help you set up a dial up connection in Windows 2000.

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Programs.
  3. Select Accessories.
  4. Select Communications.
  5. Select Network and Dial-Up Connections.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Double-click on the Make a New Connection icon.
  8. On the first wizard screen, click Next.
  9. Select United States of America from the pull-down menu.
  10. Type your area code.
  11. If you normally have to dial a number to access an outside line, such as 9, type the number in the second text box.
  12. Select Network and Dial-Up Connections.
  13. Select Tone dialing.
  14. Click OK.
  15. In the Phone and Modem Options window, highlight your location.
  16. Click the Edit button.
  17. Review each of the tabs in the Edit Location window to ensure that the settings are correct for your location.
  18. Click OK. You can now connect using a dialer such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
