Use this instructions below to set up or modify your Windows Millenium Edition (ME) dial-up connection.

Set Up a Dialer

You must set up a dialer before you can connect to the Internet. To set up your dial-up connection in Windows ME, follow the steps below:

  1. Right-click on the Dialer icon.
  2. Click TCP/IP Properties.
  3. Click the DNS Configuration tab.
  4. Click the Enable DNS option button.
  5. Type me in the Host field.
  6. Type the name of your domain. Include the “dot” and the type of domain after the name. For the email address username@yourISP.com, for example, the domain name is yourISP.com.
  7. In the DNS Server Search Order field, type the dns numbers provided by your isp, then click Add.
  8. In the DNS Server Search Order field, type the dns numbers provided by your isp, then click Add.
  9. Click OK.

Set Up a Connection

You must set up a dialer and set up a connection before you can go online. To set up your dial-up connection, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Dial-Up Networking.
  4. Double-click the Make New Connection icon.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Type a name in the first field, using a descriptive term that you will recognize later. If you travel, for example, you may want to set up several connections. One connection might be named Home, another Dallas, and another Atlanta.
  7. Select the type of modem you are using from the Select a device drop-down menu.
  8. If you have not yet configured your modem, click the Configure button and complete the associated screen.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Type the area code of the number you want to call. Make sure that it is a local number because you are responsible for all long-distance charges dialed via your modem.
  11. Type the number of the server you are calling. These numbers are available through your ISP.
  12. Ensure that United States of America (1) is selected in the drop-down field.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Click Finish.
  15. To connect, double-click the connection icon in your Dial-Up Networking folder.
  16. If you have connection problems, open Dial-Up Networking and check your settings by clicking File, then Properties. If you continue having problems, see connection problems. You can also set up a new dialer or create a shortcut to the dialer.
