To connect to a wireless network in Windows XP, you will need the following equipment:

  • Broadband connection
  • Broadband modem
  • Wireless network adapters or wireless network card on your PC
  • Wireless router

When you have the above equipment, follow these steps to connect to a wireless network:

  1. Right-click the wireless network connection in your taskbar.
  2. Click View Available Wireless Networks to open the Wireless Network Connections dialog box.
  3. A list of available networks will appear. If no networks are listed, click Refresh Network List in the upper-left corner.
  4. Highlight the network you would like to connect to.
  5. Click Connect.
  6. The network connection status will change to Acquiring Network Address, then to Connected.  Once the status reads Connected, close out of the dialog box.
  7. After you connect to the network, Windows XP will automatically add the network to your Preferred Networks list.
